Our chicks arrived in Yellow and Orange Class on Monday. We were really excited for their arrival. We all predicted which chick would hatch first.
Unfortunately nothing happened through the day (despite lots of wobbling noticed by children on “chick watch” ) On Tuesday morning we had some newly hatched chicks waiting in the incubator.
We learned how to distinguish between boys and girls and then after 24 hours we were able to move the chicks into the brooder box. The chicks need some time after being born to dry out and gain strength.
Our chicks are now all hatched and we have moved them into the brooder box. This week we are going to learn how to look after them and hold them safely.
This week children have been shown a selection of books and are voting for which story they would like to hear.
A member of staff has been allocated as the ‘secret reader’ of each book. On Friday children will meet in the hall to find out who their ‘secret reader’ is. They will then be taken to the appropriate class with their secret reader to enjoy the story.
