Daffodils for Hope

5th February 2021R Dixon

In school we are all drawing daffodils as a symbol of hope and light, coming out of the winter and moving into the spring.  I am sure you can also appreciate we are all hoping that life can get better for us all soon, and all our children can be back in school.  Why not ask your child to draw a daffodil at home, you could email it to [email protected] and we will try and upload it to our school Facebook page.  You could even display these in your windows at home to cheer up people who walk past.

Below is a link to a website that can help you with this:

Classroom to Care Home

18th December 2020R Dixon

Some of our children were chosen to write cards and letters for older residents that attend Talbot Medical Centre.  Those cards and messages of goodwill have now been delivered.  We have been told by The Shields Gazette that those children will feature in the paper tomorrow, all being well.  We were advised by the newspaper that this can change at last minute, so keep looking out for our superstar children!

Classroom to Care Home

7th December 2020R Dixon

Here are Biddick Hall Infant and Nursery School, we understand the importance of your child’s personal development as well as their academic ability.  We have recently made links with local care homes and have asked 2 children from each class to create a festive picture, card or letter to help raise the spirits of the residents during these difficult times.  I am sure you will agree this is a very worthwhile cause and your children will enjoy spreading some compassion in their community.

Those children who are taking part will have brought home a letter that needs to be signed.  We would like to feature this project in the Shields Gazette and will, therefore, need your permission to have your child’s photograph taken.  Please ensure you return this letter by Thursday 10th December.

Watch out in the local press for more information on this.

Anti-Bullying and Odd Socks

23rd November 2020R Dixon

Anti-Bullying week has been a huge success in school.  We all came into school wearing odd socks to celebrate how we are all different and special.  Nursery read Simon Sock and Emler and designed a pair of odd socks. They talked simply about how we are all different and that’s good.

In Year 2 we summed up all our learning in a few quotes – “Don’t be a bystander”, “be kind to others” and “if someone is lonely go and play with them” were some of the messages we got from the children.

In Year 1, the children felt so strongly about our anti-bullying message, they made posters and they have popped up around the school.  Adults and children have really enjoyed reading them, we love the messages including “Be a buddy not a bully!”  Well done Year 1 what great work!

A Huge Thank You!

23rd November 2020R Dixon

We wanted to let you know that all the donations have been counted from Children in Need day and £157.50 was raised!  It’s fantastic and extremely thoughtful, that during these difficult times for us all, we can still think of others and their needs.  This money will go towards some worthy causes.  Thank you again!

Anti-Bullying Week from Monday 16th November 2020

11th November 2020R Dixon

We will be supporting and celebrating Anti-Bullying Week from Monday 16th November all week. We would ask that all children come to school in odd socks.  “Odd Sock Monday” is an official day endorsed by Andy and the Band of Cbeebies.  See the link below for more information:

Odd Socks Day

Wearing odd socks is a way of showing we are all different, unique and special.  Your child will be taking part in age-appropriate activities all week during their PSHE sessions.  We would ask if you could donate up to £1 and this money will go towards the Anti Bullying Alliance charity.  Last year over 5 million children took part, and this year we hope to beat this.  So dig out those odd socks and let’s take part and learn together!

2D Shapes and Symmetry

8th November 2020R Dixon

We have all been working so hard in Year 2.  We have been learning all about 2D shapes and symmetry.  We have been naming shapes and counting the number of sides and vertices.  Vertices are where 2 sides meet.  We have also been finding lines of symmetry in these shapes and improving our scissor skills too!  Ask your child about which shapes they have been learning.  They might be  able to say: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon and octagon!
