Reception took part in a whole school event for “Show Racism the Red Card” campaign. Every one wore something red such as their school jumper, a red bow or red socks to support the event. We read a story called “It’s Okay to be Different” and we discussed how we all special and unique. The children talked about their eye colour, hair colour, skin colour, likes and dislikes and understood that it would be boring if everyone was the same. Thank you to everyone who donated to the campaign!
A big well done to all the children and parents from Reception who took part in a 10 week Maths course with the Foundation of Light Project. All the children and parents thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and attended each week. Everyone received a certificate and a visit to the Beacon of Light Centre at the Stadium of Light football ground at the celebration event.
Our school name was called and all the parents and children stood up for their achievements and were applauded for their hard work. Afterwards, we all took part in sporting activities such as curling, dodge ball and basketball and completed an Easter egg hunt. We also met a special police dog and police officer. The children went inside the police van and put on the sirens. It was a great celebration for all that were involved! Thank you for all for this great success and your efforts.

A huge well done to all of the children, parents and staff for the fantastic entries into the Easter egg decorating competition. The effort was outstanding. Keep your eyes peeled for the winners! But for now enjoy looking at our amazing entries.
The chicks starting pipping around the eggs on Tuesday and we could see some eggs moving around the incubator. On Wednesday, we came into school and had 3 new chicks. As we started our learning for the day, we set up a live camera on the IPad and we watched some more chicks hatching live! The children were lucky enough to see lots of the eggs crack and experienced how the chicks hatch out of their shells slowly.
The children were able to see the life cycle of the chicks and have learnt lots of information about the process. They have all written names for the chicks and had a hold of them. Reception have even had the chicks out on the carpet and created a maze for them to try.
The children have had a wonderful experience, Happy Easter everyone!

On Monday 25th March, we had a very special delivery…10 chick eggs! Chick number 1 had a wiggle last night, maybe it will hatch first? All the children have predicted which egg they think will hatch first and written a list of names they would like to call them. When the eggs hatch we will pick out names from a hat.
Keep checking our website page for regular updates to see when the eggs hatch.
Children can bring in any work they do at home about our chicks!
Monday 25th March:
World Book Day!
Everyone dressed up as their favourite characters on Thursday! We took part in lots of reading challenges such as: reading each day, drawing book covers, painting settings, creating characters and sharing a book with someone new. Year 1 children shared books with Reception children in our reading area and discussed their favourite stories and why. The children really enjoyed reading with different children. Reception visited our new school library with Miss Taylor and explored the new books. They loved finding a story and reading it in a cosy area. What a fantastic day!

Kung Hei Fat Choy! (Happy new year)
Reception have been learning all about Chinese New Year. They tasted a range of foods such as: noodles, prawn crackers, sweet and sour sauce, plum sauce and rice. We really enjoyed singing our happy new year song in a different language and we made dancing ribbons to perform a celebration in the hall. They wrote about the year in which they were born from the Chinese zodiac calendar. The children learnt they were either born in the year of the snake or horse. We enjoyed learning how to paint different Chinese symbols to represent animals and numbers. We then used these to make lucky money envelopes.
