Uploading a File/Photo to Google Classroom

7th January 2021F Frazer

It is brilliant to see so many of you have now accessed the invitation to your year group remote learning google classroom. Can we ask that you upload your child’s work to their own classroom to match each ‘assignment’? This is so that you are not uploading directly to the ‘stream’ the stream can be seen by the whole class so it’s better to upload your work to your own ‘classwork folder’ then it automatically saves to your child’s own special folder and teachers can then comment to your child individually -not to the whole class.

Click here to follow a link to a video to demonstrate how to upload files/photographs to google classroom on all devices. The the way you upload is slightly different depending on what device you are using. Don’t hesitate to contact the school if you have any problems and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Kidsafe KS Learns about COVID19

5th June 2020F Frazer

Biddick Hall Infant and Nursery School is a ‘Kidsafe’ school. All children in our school from Reception to Year 2 take part in regular Kidsafe sessions where trained staff talk to children in an age appropriate way about how to stay safe. There is also a huge emphasis on  discussion around emotional and mental health in the sessions. Children are able to identify a ‘trusted grown up’ to talk with if they have ‘yukky’ feelings. Those are the feelings that make us worry and sometimes make our tummies ‘feel funny’.

Our children have now been away from school for a number of weeks, they have not been able to see their teachers, friends and wider family members. They will be aware and maybe worried about this awful virus and it may have caused some ‘yukky feelings’.

Sophie Cox a ‘Kidsafe’ trained teacher from another local school in  our area has put together this lovely video for your child to watch. Please ensure that you watch the video with your child in case they need to talk through any ‘yukky feelings’ they may have with you their trusted grown up.

Click here to follow the link to watch the video.

If you are worried about your child and need further advice don’t hesitate to contact school in the usual way either by email [email protected] or via telephone 01914244859

KS Misses you all very much. Stay Safe.

We’re Going On a Bear Hunt

3rd March 2020E Heaton

Our Talk for Writing text this term has been ”We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” By Micheal Rosen

The nursery children traveled to Boldon lodge for their own bear hunt. We walked through the forest ‘stumble trip stumble trip’ following the bears footprints. We walked through a real snow storm ‘hooo whoo’ and found a bear on the train.

We went back to the lodge and warmed ourselves up with marshmallows around the log burner. We made a bear decoration and were visited by Boldon Bear. We learnt a new song that Boldon Bear taught up ”Teddy bear Teddy bear turn around”

Computing and Internet Safety Week

12th February 2020F Frazer

Yesterday, 11th February was Safer Internet Day in the UK. It was celebrated globally with the theme of: together for a better internet.

Please click here to follow the link to the safer internet day website.

Last week was computing week in school where lots of activities were happening in and outside of school. Children in the Early Years had a visit from Mrs Hayward from the OpenZone with some sphero programmable robots. Children used ipads to control their sphero to paint!

Children in year 1 learned a song about staying safe online

Children in year 2 visited the OpenZone where they got to practice coding ‘blue bots’ and making robots out of LEGO. Children also made pic collages of the things we like to do on the internet. They talked about playing games that are good for children our age. Children also learned about how to stay SMART online we know:

There is lots of information for parents and carers about how to keep your child safe online on the childnet website. Click here to find out more.

If you are unsure of the age restrictions on apps, games, movies or TV shows search for them using common sense media to find out if the content is age appropriate for your child. Click here to be taken to the website.

Santa’s Winter Wonderland

12th December 2019L Burdon

Nursery visited Santa’s Winter Wonderland and it was amazing! We met Sparkle the Christmas Elf, decorated hats and made our own Christmas tree decorations. We went exploring in the woods and all sat around the campfire to sing songs and try a toasted marshmallow. When we went back inside there was hot chocolate to warm us up before going to meet Santa Claus. We were happy that everyone in Nursery is on Santa’s ‘nice’list this year!
