Year Two – Agility development

17th February 2022K Meads

The children in Year Two have been practising their agility skills in preparation for building the skills up needed for a send and return game for example Tennis or Handball. The children started by sitting with a partner side by side. One side will be called ‘Rabbits’ and the other side ‘Rats’. Mrs Fraser called “rabbits” the rabbits had to chase the rats to a designated point on their side and visa versa for rats. The children could only chase their partner and had to be fast. Mrs Fraser encouraged the children to think about being ready to move and to consider the direction they may need to run in and the space around them.

The children then rotated around the different agility stations to practise all the skills they would need in a send and return game such as quickly changing direction, receiving and throwing objects, running with pace, shifting balance from one leg to the other.

The children in Year Two then used all the skills they had been practising and applied them to a team group game, where the aim was to get the ball over the other side of the bench and to not let the other team catch it in order to score a point.

Year One – Send and Return

17th February 2022K Meads

The children in Year One have been exploring the topic of Send and Return in P.E lessons. The children have been practising the skills of aiming, throwing and catching a ball with a partner. To add another layer of challenge, the children then had to aim the ball and bounce it once over a cone to their partner. They were focussing on keeping the ball controlled and at their partners waistline so that it is easier to catch. The children then participated in a team game where they needed to roll the ball over to the other side and get as many balls over the line of cones by the end of the game. The children had to aim the ball into a space and concentrate on catching it before returning it.

Computing and Internet Safety Week

12th February 2020F Frazer

Yesterday, 11th February was Safer Internet Day in the UK. It was celebrated globally with the theme of: together for a better internet.

Please click here to follow the link to the safer internet day website.

Last week was computing week in school where lots of activities were happening in and outside of school. Children in the Early Years had a visit from Mrs Hayward from the OpenZone with some sphero programmable robots. Children used ipads to control their sphero to paint!

Children in year 1 learned a song about staying safe online

Children in year 2 visited the OpenZone where they got to practice coding ‘blue bots’ and making robots out of LEGO. Children also made pic collages of the things we like to do on the internet. They talked about playing games that are good for children our age. Children also learned about how to stay SMART online we know:

There is lots of information for parents and carers about how to keep your child safe online on the childnet website. Click here to find out more.

If you are unsure of the age restrictions on apps, games, movies or TV shows search for them using common sense media to find out if the content is age appropriate for your child. Click here to be taken to the website.

Skipping Day Success!

29th November 2019A Best

This week our whole school enjoyed taking part in a day of skipping. For many of our children this was a new experience which they thoroughly enjoyed. Gail our skipping coach was extremely please with progress all our children made throughout the day. Some children even demonstrated their new skills during a celebration assembly at the end of the day. The children are now looking forward to practicing their skills further on the yard during play time. We are hopefully taking part in the South Tyneside Skipping Festival later this year. Keep checking back to see our progress.

Our New Running Track!

29th September 2019A Best

To keep us fit, healthy and active we now have a running track which loops around our yard. We aim to run, jog or walk around it as many times as we can, trying to beat our score from the day before. We enjoy running around our tack  every afternoon. It is a brilliant way to get our brains ready for more learning in the classroom.
