Here are some more photos of your lovely children, some wanted to pose for an individual one and some were a bit shy! See if you can spot some fabulous dance moves!!
We had a fantastic time on Wednesday afternoon celebrating at our Christmas Party. we played party games such as pass the parcel, musical bumps and statues, dancing competitions and more! We enjoyed some delicious party food; hot dogs, crispy cakes, ice-cream and juice. We also had a very special visitor join us… Santa Claus himself! What a fabulous afternoon!
We all had a wonderful party on Wednesday afternoon. We played pass the parcel, danced until our feet were sore and enjoyed lovely party food! The day finished with a very special visitor – Santa!! The children sang Sparkle and Shine for him and Mrs Willis made sure he went home with his own present. The staff from Year 2 would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The children enjoyed a fantastic trip to the OpenZone @The Word yesterday. In the morning we explored using the ‘2Create a Superstory’ program on our very own laptops. We used this to create a simple animated picture of the fire of London. We also went in the TV studio to record a mini TV show all about the Fire of London. After, we had some Christmas fun recording one of our favorite songs ‘Sparkle and Shine’. After lunch, we used the ‘2diy’ software to make a festive matching pairs game complete with fabulous card designs and sound effects. At the end of the trip we got together to watch our edited videos that we had created. The Children were excellent! Take a look at our photographs and videos. Enjoy!
English – this week we will continue to write our innovated story about Little Red Riding Hood. We have been learning how to use commas after words like suddenly and luckily. We have also been putting into practice what we have learned about speech marks. We will then work towards our independent application, making up our own journey story following the structure of Little Red Riding Hood.
Phonics – this week we will be learning the spelling patterns for plurals, both regular and irregular. For example lolly – lollies, fox – foxes.
Mathematics – This week is all about multiplication tables for 2, 5 and 10. Watch out for homework sheets at the end of the week. Remember to bring in any work done at home – we love to see what the children have been doing!
We thought you’d like to read about the learning your child will be doing next week (12th November). Maybe you would like to talk to your child about this or even have a go at trying out some of this learning at home. Please feel free to ask any questions of the teaching team.
In English we will continue to learn the story of Little Red Riding Hood and will practise learning the difference between questions and exclamations, and also using commas to separate items in a list.
In Mathematics we will be using the greater than and less than symbols < > to compare numbers. The children will be looking at 2 digit numbers and comparing them by using their knowledge of tens and ones. We will also be learning how to spell 2 digit numbers, for example ‘twenty-six’.
In our Wider Curriculum we will be artists, learning how to create shades of colour by adding white. We will also be experimenting with colour in a variety of ways, with paper, charcoal, paint and pastels, to create a Fire of London background. We just know the children will enjoy this!
We have been learning our 2x and 5x tables in Year 2. It’s important that our children become fluent in these tables as it helps in many other calculations. We have already sent home 2x tables to practise at home – watch out for the 5x tables too. Thank you to all the children and parents who have sent back any homework. Keep up the good work!
A few children in year 2 have been talking about writing stories at home. We are going to send out a copy of our writing tool kit that we use in class. It is simply a checklist of things they must remember in their writing: capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and sense. If your child does any writing at home, ask them to show you how they use the tool kit to make their writing even better! We love to hear about any work done at home so feel free to send it in for us to read! Watch out for these being sent out this week.
As we value your support in your child’s education, we thought it might be nice to let you know what we will be learning about next week. This gives you the opportunity to talk to your child about these things and see what they already know. You might want to look at websites (remember the log ins we gave you for Espresso and Purple Mash), or look at books together. That way your child will feel happy and confident in their learning.
In Mathematics we are learning to tell the time – o’ clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. They also have to be able to tell the time to 5 minutes – try counting in fives as you look at a clock or watch at home. Talk about how many seconds in a minute and how many minutes in an hour too!
In English we are going to be learning the story of Red Riding Hood. Maybe you have this book at home or try looking up activities on Espresso or Purple Mash for ideas. Your child may want to try and write the story or draw a story map at home. Please send in any work they do at home – we love to see it!
Next week we are going to be Historians, learning all about The Great Fire of London – we will be creating timelines, using language that shows the passing of time (in the past, happened, a long time ago), and using computers and books to find out more about this event.
Happy learning together!
