History Week and Remembrance 2019

11th November 2019F Frazer

It has been history week in school. Children in year 1 have been learning about World War 1 and Year 2 have been learning about World War 2. All children in school have been remembering those who have fought and died in both world wars and more recent conflicts. To mark remembrance 2019, today on Armistice day, some children went to the West Park Cenotaph to represent our school in paying our respects. We held a two minute silence in school and all classes have made a class poppy wreath. This afternoon we held a very special assembly. We talked about why we remember and each class presented their wreath very respectfully. The wreaths are very beautiful and will be proudly displayed so that we can continue to remember.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Armistice Day 2019

11th November 2019F Frazer

This morning we took a group of representatives form our school to the cenotaph in the West Park to pay our respects to those who have fought and lost their lives in wars of the past and more recent conflicts. The children who came along were brilliant role models for our school. Their behaviour and respectfulness were exemplary.

We were joined by children form other schools, veterans who served our country, the Mayor, members of other uniformed services and of course members of the public. It was a lovely service led by Father Mervyn.

Biddick Hall Infant and Nursery School remembers…

Lest we forget.

A big thank you to all the adults who joined us in celebrating harvest.

The children enjoyed preparing the vegetable and crusty bread before sharing it with their grownups.

Learning- w.b 26th November 2018

25th November 2018A Best

This week we will be visiting All Saints Church to learn about Christian places of worship. The children will identify key features of a Church which will prepare us for learning about the Christmas story.

This week is our assessment week which will allow us to share our understanding of English, Maths and Phonics.

In English we will be writing our own versions of the Gingerbread Man Story. Using our story map and our own ideas we will plan and write a 5 part story.

In Maths we will complete fluency and problem solving activities to show our understanding of number, shape, addition and subtraction.

In Phonics we will practice our phonemes (phase 2-5) and year 1 common exception words.

Year 1

Year 1 Learning – w.b. 19th November 2018

17th November 2018J Storey

This week we will be changing the Gingerbread Man story to create our own versions.  We will focus on spelling and writing in clear sentences.  In Maths we are adding and subtracting numbers to ten and using our knowledge of number bonds to ten to help us.  Please help your children to know the number bonds off by heart.

This week is art week.  We are studying colour to create firework art.  This art will be used to form our 2019 calendars.
