Glittery Germs!

20th September 2019F Frazer

In science we have been learning about how good hygiene is important to humans as it helps keep us safe and healthy. We did some experiments in class to show the importance of hand washing. One of our friends had glitter all over their hands and they went around the classroom touching various objects such as door handles and pencils. We were amazed to see how quickly the germs spread! We easily solved the problem by washing the germs off our hands and classroom objects with soap and water.

We explored how germs ‘don’t like’ soap by completing another experiment. We dropped glitter (germs) into a bowl of water. When we dipped our finger in the glitter (germs) stuck to it quickly. However, when we put soap on our finger the glitter (germs) moved away from our finger. Logan said “Its like the germs are scared of the soap!” We all agreed it’s best to wash our hands regularly with soap and water.

Year 2 Tips for good hygiene:

  1. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
  2. cover your mouth with your hands when you cough or sneeze (Don’t forget to wash your hands after)
  3. Use a tissue to wipe your nose. Put it in the bin when you are finished!

Talented Performers!

18th July 2019R Dixon

Today we performed our leaver’s concert for family and friends.  The children thought of their own speaking parts and chose the songs they love to sing.  We have such talented children in our school and all the teachers and teaching assistants would like to congratulate the children on their fantastic performance!  We hope you enjoyed it!

Winner Engineers!

6th June 2019R Dixon

Thank you to all of you who have supported your child in attending the Primary Engineers Programme, which was run as an after school club.  At the competition your children were an absolute credit to yourselves and to the school.  They spoke with such enthusiasm, confidence and politeness to the judges about their vehicles.  They answered some really tricky questions too.  Then they stood up in front of everyone and tested their vehicles on ramp.  We were so proud when one of our pairs was voted runner up overall in the Apprentice Level 1!  Well done all of you!  The vehicles were made in pairs and at the moment are on display in school but will be available to come home soon!

We are all winners!

British Science Week

6th April 2019R Dixon

We celebrated British Science week with some wonderful science workshops from Claire at Fusion Stem.  We learned about different materials and how their ability to change can be useful!  We created bracelets that changed colour in the sun, we changed hair gel from a solid to a liquid using salt and we tested different nappies using liquid!  We all achieved and had fun too!

Year 2

Easter Cakes

6th April 2019R Dixon

In Maths we have been learning to read scales to measure quantities.  We thought the children had worked so hard this term that we would bake Easter treats.  The children enjoyed this especially the eating – we had lots of volunteers to wash up afterwards too!

Multi-Skills Heroes!

10th March 2019R Dixon

On Friday, 30 of our Year 2 children were chosen to represent Biddick Hall Infant School in a multi-skills competition at Boldon Community Association.  Although we didn’t win any medals the children were all winners in our eyes.  The behaviour was outstanding and all the children put in 100% effort, we were so proud!  And as you can see from the photos we all enjoyed ourselves!  Thank you to all the adult helpers for making the day run so smoothly.
